‘Five Years Time' by Noah and the Whale

  • This is a very simple song with only three repeated chords.
  • However, let's try and get the strumming pattern spot on!
  • And let's have a bit of a 'whistle-y-happy-clappy' time as well!!

Strumming Pattern;

  • When this simple chord progression  is played on the track it uses the same pattern* all the time;

                             Up-Down-Up-Mute

  • Try playing it by using the pad of your first finger (pointing finger) for the Up...
  • Your first finger nail for the Down...
  • The pad of your first finger for the Up...
  • And finally the palm of your hand to mute the strings.

This does take some practise to try and be able to play it without 'thinking' about it too much!

  • You could also get away with just playing Down-Down (or twice) on each chord - but where's the fun in that?!

There is a 'clapping' section where the ukulele drops out...

There are 2 patterns to learn:

Chorus:

1 2& 3 4   1 2& 3 4

Verse:

1 2 (3)& 4&   1 2 (3)& 4&
  ( )     ( )

Now to put all the parts together to make up the song...don't forget the whistling!

Intro:

Verse 1:

well in five years time we could be walking round a zoo

With the sun shining down over me and you

And there'll be love in the bodies of the elephants too

And I'll put my hands over your eyes, but you'll peep through

Chorus:

And there'll be sun sun sun

All over our bodies

And sun sun sun

All down our necks

And sun sun sun

All over our faces

And sun sun sun

So what the heck

Verse 2:

Cause I'll be laughing at all your silly little jokes

And we'll be laughing about how we used to smoke

All those stupid little cigarettes

And drink stupid wine

Cause it's what we needed to have a good time

Chorus:

And it was fun fun fun

When we were drinking

It was fun fun fun

When we were drunk

And it was fun fun fun

When we were laughing

It was fun fun fun

Oh it was fun

Verse 3:

Oh well I look at you and say

It's the happiest that I've ever been

And I'll say I no longer feel I have to be James Dean

And she'll say

Yah well I feel all pretty happy too

And I'm always pretty happy when I'm just kicking back with you

Chorus:

And there'll be

Love love love

All through our bodies

And love love love

All through our minds

And there'll be Love love love

All over her face

And Love love love

All over mine

Verse 4:

Although maybe all these moments are just in my head

I'll be thinking about them as I'm lying in bed

And all that I believe might never really come true

But in my mind I'm having a pretty good time with you

Chorus:

Oh

Five years time

I might not know you

Five years time

We might not speak

Oh

In five years time

We might not get along

In five years time

You might just prove me wrong

Oh there'll be love love love

Wherever you go

There'll be love love love

Wherever you go

There'll be love love love

Wherever you go

There'll be love love love

Wherever you go

There'll be love love love

Wherever you go

There'll be love love love

Wherever you go

There'll be love love love

Wherever you go there'll be love
